Heat Pumps in Medford, MA, Planned Around Your Budget

Ducted and ductless heat pumps, boiler and furnace replacement, Mass Save rebate coordination and the 0% HEAT Loan, organized into one plan with the numbers set before any work is booked.

Where your project stands with us

  • 7 years installing

Seven years of putting heat pumps into older Greater Boston homes, from capes to two-families.

  • One itemized proposal

Equipment, labor, rebate estimate and loan figure listed line by line on a single document.

  • A coordinator for your file

Forms, dates and lender requests tracked in one place so nothing stalls.

  • Budget set first

We work backward from what you can comfortably put toward the project.

  • Program rules checked

Rebate and HEAT Loan requirements reviewed against your house before equipment is chosen.

Five Services, Coordinated as One Project

Most Medford projects touch more than one of these. A furnace replacement usually involves a rebate. A rebate often works best alongside the loan. We line the pieces up so they support each other and the budget holds.

The Six Stages of a Project

  1. Intake call

We note the home's size, the heating fuel, the utility on your bills and what you want to change. You also tell us the budget range you have in mind.

  2. Eligibility review

We compare rebate and HEAT Loan requirements with your house. When an energy assessment has to come first, our office helps book it.

  3. Site visit and sizing

Rooms, insulation, windows and the current equipment measured, so the system design rests on heat loss rather than the old unit's rating.

  4. Proposal and financing

An itemized proposal with equipment, price, rebate estimate and loan amount. If you use the loan, you apply with a participating lender while we provide the contractor paperwork.

  5. Installation

Outdoor and indoor units, line sets, controls, and removal or integration of the old system, carried out on the dates agreed.

  6. Startup and closeout

Commissioning tests, a tour of the thermostats, then the final rebate and loan forms signed off so your file closes cleanly.

What Keeps a Medford Project on Budget

Overruns usually come from three places: missed paperwork, vague scopes and equipment sized by guesswork. Our process is built to close off all three.

  • Paperwork owned by our office

Rebate applications, the HEAT Loan authorization paperwork and anything a lender wants from the contractor are prepared and tracked here, not handed back to you.

  • Scope written down in full

Every unit, line set, control and removal task appears in the written proposal. If it is not listed, it is not assumed, so the price you approve is the price of the job described.

  • Equipment sized to each room

A room-by-room heat-loss calculation sets the capacity. That avoids paying for oversized equipment and avoids the comfort problems of undersized units.

Medford and Neighboring Communities

Medford's housing runs from older capes and colonials in West Medford to two-families near Medford Square and homes on the slopes around Tufts. Many still heat with gas or oil through radiators that were never paired with ducts. The Mystic River, I-93, Route 16 and Route 60 tie the city to the towns around it, and we work in those towns too, from Somerville and Malden to Arlington, Winchester and the edge of the Middlesex Fells.

Radiator homes, ductless answers

Where there are no ducts, ductless heads deliver heating and cooling without opening walls. It is the most common setup we design in this area.

Belmont uses a light plant

Belmont homes buy electricity from Belmont Light, which runs its own heat pump rebate. The HEAT Loan may still apply there when the gas account is with a Mass Save gas utility.

A single number for all of it

Woburn, Stoneham, Cambridge or Everett, every project starts with a call to (339) 227-6907 and runs through the same office.

Set the Budget Before You Pick Equipment

For 2026, the Mass Save incentive on a whole-home heat pump system tops out at up to $8,500, figured by tonnage, for houses meeting its eligibility terms. The HEAT Loan can finance more at 0%. Both figures go beside your budget on the first call.

Answers Our Office Gives Most Often

These questions come up on most intake calls. Each answer reflects the current program rules.

Do income-eligible households get larger heat pump incentives?

Yes. Mass Save has an enhanced track for income-eligible households with higher heat pump incentives than the standard rebate. Eligibility is based on household income and other program rules, so we confirm which track fits during the intake call.

How does whole-home differ from partial-home?

Whole-home means the heat pumps supply every bit of the heating; partial-home handles selected rooms or zones. The whole-home path carries the larger incentive, up to $8,500 in 2026 on a per-ton basis for eligible homes, and partial-home incentives are smaller. On a partial setup, the zone the heat pump takes over has its old equipment pulled, disconnected or tied into integrated controls.

How large is the 2026 Mass Save heat pump rebate?

Up to $8,500 when an air-source system heats the whole home, scaled by tons of heating capacity. Qualifying hinges on finishing the weatherization your energy assessment calls for, installing listed cold-climate units and living in the home full-time each winter. Partial-home work earns less.

Is my house a candidate for the whole-home rebate?

Possibly, if four requirements are met. Heat pumps carry all of the heating, assessment-recommended weatherization is complete, the units appear on the qualifying list, and someone lives there full-time in winter. We review each requirement before any sizing work.

Does a municipal light plant change which rebates apply?

Yes. In a light plant town, that utility's own rebate generally replaces the Mass Save electric heat pump rebate. Medford is not one of those towns; its electricity comes through a Mass Save utility. Neighboring Belmont buys power from Belmont Light, and HEAT Loan financing may still work there if gas service is through National Grid or Eversource.

Can the old boiler or furnace stay as a backup?

Yes, with the right controls. With integrated controls, the heat pump does the heavy lifting and the old unit wakes only in deep cold. Without a backup, the old equipment is removed or disconnected for each zone the heat pump now serves.

What are the mechanics of the 0% HEAT Loan?

Mass Save arranges 0% interest financing, up to $25,000, through lenders signed on with the program. Requirements include a Mass Save utility account, a contractor proposal, a signed authorization form and lender approval, with an inspection after installation. Our office writes the proposal and assists with the form.
